How to Contribute to the Metropolis Project

There are a lot of options for supporting the project. The first step is to register for membership (although if you don't wish to register you can still help out!) Once you've registered, you can find some of the easiest ways to contribute below:

Financial | Creative | Volunteer

Financial

Make a pledge:

The Metropolis Project's main purpose is to build funding for the development of a next-generation city simulation game. Pledging an investment in the project is the best way to help us succeed! Pledges can be of any size, and pledging is easy and risk-free: you will not be required to give any personal or payment information, and will not be charged anything unless the pledge goals are met.

Make a site donation:

Besides making a pledge for game development, you can also contribute directly to the project; Donations in this category will be used to help pay for ongoing administrative costs (the largest being hosting bills for the website). While these donations will not be part of the development fund for the game, they will count towards project membership!

Creative

Community Input

The Metropolis project is committed to making a game that reflects what the community wants; To do that, the community needs to make its voice heard! Head on over to the forums to share your ideas about what features for a city sim game are most important to you. Everyone is free to join in the discussion, and if you become a full project member you will be able to actually vote on which features are included in the final game!

Technical Expertise

The Metropolis Project is different from most open source projects in that it doesn't solicit volunteer developers from the outset; Instead our main goal is to raise funding for a full-time development team. However, that doesn't mean there is no role for volunteers in the project! Once development begins, the priority will be to use the dedicated team to create a solid, open foundation for the community to elaborate on; That means working closely with community developers and artists at every step of the production, and beyond release (You can read more about the development model here.)

In the meantime, we hope you will visit the discussion forums and lend your particular expertise to the wider community discussion. In addition, the project organizers will also maintain a directory of volunteers, so if you would eventually like to do some coding, artwork, sound, or other technical work, please visit our contact form and let us know!

Volunteer

Even if your area of expertise is not tech-oriented, there is probably something you can contribute! One area where almost anyone can help out is with beta testing the game as it develops. In addition, the project can benefit greatly from members who are willing to contribute to its management and organization: specifically, people in the legal, financial, or marketing field (to name a few).

Last, and most importantly, you can help us out simply by spreading the word about the project on forums, blogs, and other websites, or telling your friends about us.  The more people find out about Metropolis the sooner we can get the game made!  Below are some images you can use as forum avatars or signatures to help promote the project.

If you feel you can help out, head over to the forums and add your voice to the discussion, or sign up for our volunteer directory.
