The new site is finally up!  It's still a bit rough around the edges, and there will probably be some changes and hiccups in the months to come, but I think it's come together rather nicely... What does everyone else think?

I like the deco style.  Reminds me of Bioshock.  Which reminds me of System Shock.

Bioshock, eh?  Hmm... not sure if that was quite the aesthetic I was going for...  maybe I need to brighten the design up a bit more;  someone else told me they thought it was the website for an architecture firm at first :/

Hello
Congrats on the site, it looks great. There are however some rather painful breakages:

  • The right hand sidebar is rather redundant, would do better in the space above the header (where the 'about' link is)
  • I am on a standard resolution (1024x768), and the header links overlap the logo
  • Relating to the resolution and the right-sidebar, I have about 40% of the screenspace for content, whilst the rightsidebar is pretty empty and has a good 5% padding on the edge of it...

Joe

Thanks, Joe!  I still have a lot of polishing to do, but I didn't want to delay getting the site up any longer.  The first and last ones are already on my todo list, I have the same problem on my computer at work;  Mainly just a matter of fiddling with the CSS, I think; I was planning to add some more content to the right sidebar, but I guess it is a bit redundant for now.

As for the logo, can you tell me what your screen size/browser is, and how far it overlaps?  I'm looking at it on a 4:3 17-inch monitor at 1024x768, and it's not overlapping for me; can you give me a sense of how much it needs reducing by?

Thanks for the feedback!

edit: tightened up the right sidebar by about 30%... hopefully that should help.

Hi John,
just a short message: good the website's up! It looks neat and tidy, I suppose that is a good thing for a city builder in spé, where everything is supposed to be architecture-ish!
bye, Oka

right, and immediately want to report a 'missing link'. In the technical expertise paragraph at the 'how to contribute' page you stated: "That means working closely with community developers and artists at every step of the production, and beyond release (You can read more about the development model here.)

last few words, but: where is the development model link?

Good catch oka01!  That was eventually meant to link to an article I haven't finished writing yet... how embarassing :(  For now I just pointed it to the "Articles" section.  Thanks!

sorry for pointing this out, since it is just of minor importance and you probably have major issues regarding the website's final layout etcetera, but now it is still easy to find minor errors since the site isn't that big yet
So if you think I'm just bothering you with minor issues, my apologies =)

let's go on and see where it goes!

sorry, found another one... =)
at the main page, underneath the poll, there is a link to the comments. At my screen the textballoon which is next to every comment link is behind the text "1 comments" instead of being next to it.

Not at all oka, it's very helpful!  Keep 'em coming! :)

I've got that same poll issue myself, hopefully just a css tweak... I'll put it on the list!

Found one!
When I visit the forums, it does not mention new posts (the image which inducates new posts). It only shows up at the page of the forum topics where I can see threads but not on the main page of the forum.

Oops!  That was just a setting I forgot to turn on :)  Should be fixed now.  In other good news I finally fixed the RSS feed, which was driving me crazy because it only showed new news items and not articles... I was agonizing over it forever, so of course it turned out to be a head-slappingly simple fix in the end :D
