As Didy mentioned in another thread, and as we've discussed a bit further since, one thing we'll need to do is organize our volunteer efforts into "task forces" that people can join based on their area of expertise or interest.  I just want to throw out a few ideas in this thread and see if people can think of any to add:

-Site development: web developers and designers, for working on the site's infrastructure
-Promotion: for spreading the word about the project around the web and elsewhere
-Fundraising: encouraging pledging and donations (could maybe be combined with promotion)
-Localization: translating, first for the website and eventually for the game itself.

Those are just off the top of my head, and I'm sure there's other that will come up.  One of my biggest concerns right now is finding the right place for developers to participate before work on the game code actually begins (besides just throwing out ideas, of course).  Any developers out there care to weigh in on that?

I'm not sure how many members have signed up at the moment, but once you feel that the game has adequate exposure to the community and that there is a good swing in momentum, I think organising some sort of formal discussion or something is required. Perhaps a real time chat function would work or a skype meeting to decide the future of the game.
On the developer front, it's going to be really hard because we are going to end up having (hopefully) dozens of keen developers, but who never physically meet for the duration of the software development. Perhaps before we split into "task forces", we need to stay as a group and get a concrete idea of where we are going, if anywhere. A skype conversation is going to be the best way to do it, though coordinating the time zones may be an issue.
In the long term, we are definitely going to need a really well built IRC function integrated to this site. Freedom of communication is going to be the core of this project.

Good idea!  I'll have to look into adding a chat function; A conference call via Skype might be a bit tough depending on how many people we have, and the time zone, as you said.

Exactly; right now I'm really concentrating on organizing the project and clarifying our goals and structure.  But it couldn't hurt to start putting the framework in place.

I agree; IRC might have to wait until we grow enough to afford a dedicated server though, still on shared hosting atm :)

I am guessing we need more publicity because the forum doesn't seem that active right now...
But the only problem with publicity is that since this website is so new and success hasn't been guarenteed, new users might be turned off due to the uncertainty of the project. Though, I am guessing real video game enthusiast and any video game deveopers would like to check this out.
The skype idea is good but might include a few privacy issues. Will the Skype be limited to only a few members and then allow others to join in chat?

I can translate into Spanish and I am good at XML (and I know very basic C++).
